Question:
Why would you groom a cat?
Answer: It is a common misconception that cats do not require the services of a professional groomer. Feline grooming is a much different specialty than canine grooming, with unique handling and soothing techniques to ensure the cat is not cut or harmed during the grooming process. At Fabulous Furballs, we are proud to have the only feline master groomer in Canada on staff training our new feline grooming students and putting his expertise to use for you and your feline.

Question:
Why is training important to my animal and I?
Answer: Our instructional staff, staff groomers, and students are continually trained on the latest and most up to date techniques for handling your pet. All of this continuing education combines to create a more relaxed, professional experience for you and your pet.

Question:
My cat is so matted and everyone keeps talking about a lion cut. What is this?
Answer: A lion cut (see image below) is a style of hair cut that is ideal for cats that are so matted they have no other option, families where feline allergies or shedding are a problem, or for owners who just prefer a more styled look for their feline. With a lion cut, the groomer uses a very short blade to remove the hair from the body, upper portions of the leg, and majority of the tail. What is left is a mane, socks from their knees down, and a poof at the end of their tail. In order to maintain this cut, you would need to bring in your kitty every 3-4 months. For clients who prefer a hairier kitty, we do offer alternate options or just a bath & brush out treatment that leaves them a wee bit warmer for our Edmonton weather!

Question:
I've heard contradicting information about grooming certification & licensing- some groomers say
there is no certification or licensing process, others say it is meaningless. What's the truth?

Answer: There is a difference between certification & licensing. In Canada, there is no licensing available to groomers. However, there has been a licensed certification process available since 1983 through Alberta Learning's Private Vocational Schools Act. A certified groomer has completed a licensed vocational program, in Canada or the United States, and has been hands on trained by licensed trainers with many dogs before they work on yours. Without this certification, a groomer could have absolutely no experience, training, or hands on apprenticeship. Pet grooming is an art that the professionals take very seriously- our Fabulous Furballs grooming staff attend no less than two grooming conferences throughout the year and are constantly working on updating their skills. We believe that this commitment translates into a better, gentler experience for you and your pet!
