Get a clean cat! Better yet, get a fabulous cat!
My husband, Dwayne, is Canada's first Certified Feline Master Groomer under the National Cat Groomers Institute of America and is known in our parts as "Mr. Meow". Here is the short version of the story: I open a pet spa, we get a ton of cat grooming requests, Dwayne heads off to South Carolina to train under the cat grooming goddess, he aces all of his master's exams, and- poof!- he is Canada's first Certified Feline Master Groomer. His credentials don't just end there- he's actually a far bigger deal in the grooming world than I am. Dwayne is the only Canadian evaluator for the National Cat Groomers Institute of America, he's a certified master dog groomer in specific groups, and he is a certified grooming instructor. All of this doesn't just mean that he is a grooming geek- it adds up to a qualified groomer that has hundreds of hours of experience wrangling little lions that aren't too thrilled about getting their nails trimmed.

The list of cat grooming misconceptions is endless- cats groom themselves, they don't need a bath, etc. The truth about cat grooming is that cats just lick themselves. Imagine if you licked yourself. You'd just be moving the dirt and dander all around- this is just what cats do and it is why they most certainly need a bath. If your cat isn't terribly agreeable to having a bath, this is where our talented cat whisperer comes in. Mr. Meow has trained Certified Feline Master Groomers around Canada, but we are lucky enough to have a Certified Feline Master Groomer in each of our Fabulous Furballs locations to ensure your cat is pampered in the safest manner possible. If your cat has a smell, a dirty look, or just needs a nail trim, bring them into any Fabulous Furballs location to experience the difference that a cat whisperer can make!

Alas, I am another year older and wiser.
Personally, I am not a big celebration fan. I think it is because I feel like I get enough spot light already and I really do try to celebrate every day. It occurs to me that perhaps a gift of getting into one's 30's is the wisdom to appreciate how far you have come. I have built a business that continues to grow and has gotten through those rocky first four years. I have two children who are the shining stars of my life and a husband who is truly "the wind beneath my wings." I have amazing friends who can always be counted on for strong drinks and adventures around the globe. I have parents who told me as a child "you can do anything" and I set about doing just that.

It's always amazing to me how important perspective is for each of us. I could tell you that I still have a good 90lbs to lose and that diet continues to be my downfall. I could share that my house is a mess most days and laundry is a never ending battle. I could tell you all about the people who have let me down, the lies that others like to spread, and all the mistakes I made in those first four years of building a business. However, who has the time? The truth is that I am so focused on all the sunshine and good things in my days, I had to dig deep just to recall some of those negative things for this blog. Everyone has days that aren't fabulous, but I'll take a less than fabulous day over a good day behind a desk any day of the week.

Life at 31 is fabulous and I can't wait to see what the next year brings.

Happy Easter Fabulous People!
Today I would like to talk about rabbits.  Just the other day we had Monty the Angora rabbit in- yes, we groom rabbits, ferrets, and anything with fur that could need our services.  Monty was a good rabbit, but his high maintenance fur had gotten the best of his owners and it was time for a bath and brush out.  When we opened four years ago, I never dreamed we would groom rabbits.  On that first day, we had a client come in with her rabbit and she started the steady stream of rabbit clients that have been coming to us ever since.  I wonder if the Easter bunny requires professional grooming?  One would assume he needs a bath and brush out at the very least.  I suppose if I run into him this Easter weekend, I will have to ask.  Until then, if your chihuahua wants to get in the Easter spirit with a cute Easter ensemble or your rabbit wants to look it's best for the holiday weekend, you know where to go.  We will be closed this Friday, April 22nd and Monday, April 23rd for our staff to enjoy some time off with their families this Easter weekend.

When is the last time you got sweaty with your co-workers?  OK, I should clarify.
When is the last time you worked out with your co-workers?  As part of my commitment to health in 2011, I have been working out 3-4 days a week with the amazing Shara Vigeant, the only female MMA strength & conditioning coach in the Edmonton area.  Before I worked out with Shara, I hated workouts- the running, the scary machines, the intimidating body builder types that hang out at the gym.  Now, I am fearless!  We do boxing, rope waves, and I am proud to say I can do 48 push ups- from my toes no less.  I'm not skinny, but I'm starting to get fit and healthy feels really good.  I find I feel so good, I wanted to share this with our team, so I created our corporate fitness challenge with Shara.  On Sunday, May 1st from 1-2:30PM, staff from all three Fabulous Furballs locations (groomers, sales people, managers, even our controller) will be attending a 90 minute "No equiptment, no problem!" session with Shara and her team.  We will learn proper nutrition, proper stretching, and a proper work out that any one can do at home with no equiptment.  Then, we will head home and practice.  On Saturday, June 4th, Shara Vigeant Personal Training is hosting a fitness challenge to benefit the Kids with Cancer Society and our team will be competing.  It's not about being the strongest, the fastest, or even the most fit- for our team, it is about taking those little steps towards being a healthier person and raising money for kids with cancer, who aren't well enough to get out there themselves.  I encourage all of you to check out www.sharavigeant.com for more information on the challenge and to get involved.  If you don't want to get sweaty with us, please make a donation at any Fabulous Furballs location and show your support.

Ever notice how sometimes the best things in life are not the ones you are seeking, but the ones that find you?
The little puppy on the left is a Heinz 57 born of a happy accident to owners that were just going to hand her off to a shelter or anyone who happened along. Our good friends, Victor and Erynn, have considered getting a puppy for awhile, but always decided against it because they don't have kids (yet) and enjoy their freedom to travel. I can appreciate that perspective because no one understands what a lifetime commitment pets can be more than myself. However, sometimes, the right furball just has a way of ending up in your lap. Victor and Erynn were visiting their friend Johnny yesterday and this puppy was the last of the accidental litter. Before they even knew what was happening, the puppy crawled into Victor's lap and their petless freedom was over. Victor is a tough guy- a man's man that wouldn't fall for just any blonde, but this little ball of fluff won him over in that first moment. Last night was a whiny one- we all know how new puppies are in those first days- but Victor has named her "Isabella" and "Izzy" is the proud owner of a hot pink collar and leash set and her very own forever family. Congratulations to Victor and Erynn on their new fabulous furball and may some happy surprises find their way into your life, too!

What are you doing this weekend?

Stephanie Nahn, the owner of the Edmonton Music Studios, approached me a few months ago to help create an event that would allow her music students to raise money for the Edmonton Humane Society. It took me all of one second to decide that combining cute children with cute animals was a fabulous idea. Together, we created the 1st annual play for pets event and this weekend is the first event!

Tomorrow- Saturday, April 2nd from 11AM-4PM at the Edmonton City Centre's main stage, you can come hear a variety of music students and musicians from the Edmonton area play music to raise money for the Edmonton Humane Society. Every penny goes to the animals in need and these students have spent the last month practicing and hitting up friends, family, and anyone they know to raise money for this very worthy cause. If you don't have pressing plans, this is a great event to come out and support. I will be there with my girls dancing to the tunes and having a great time, so bring your family and support the Edmonton Humane Society!

*Parking is underground and heated all day for only $3

- Hope to see you there! Krista
